The Scotch Thistle

When I am feeling unwilling to fall prey to life’s difficult experiences, I am reminded of my heritage. This morning’s cup refreshed me! My daughters each have the thistle tattooed on a small piece of skin. Mine is tattooed within!

Of Scottish descent, I have always been attracted to the motto of the Scotch Thistle, Wha daur meddle wi me. According to legend, the Scotch Thistle played a vital part in the defence of the ancient realm of Scotland against a night attack by Norwegian Vikings, one of whom let out a yell of pain when he stepped on a prickly thistle thus alerting the Scottish defenders. In the motto No-one harasses me with impunity (English version) it was originally referring to the thistle itself. For me, it’s simply, I am strong; don’t meddle with me!

Now, take some time and have a wee cup of tea!
